Introduction to Turkish Armed Forces/Jandarma Weapons:
Firearms use has been a common motif within Turkey’s martial history. From the use of Orban’s cannon designs commissioned by Mehmed II and used during the siege of Constantinople, to the Ottoman Janissaries wielding muskets, Turkish armies never shied away from gun usage.
Economic ties with Germany which strengthened during the Ottoman era just before the onset of the Great War meant military trade between the two countries. Ottoman-era Mauser 1893s, Turkish made made G3s, to HK416A5s used today are a testament to the major German influence on Turkish firearms.
As a matter of fact, many weapons in Turkey’s arsenal, such as the HK33, G3, and the MG3, are licensed by their respective companies in Germany to produce domestically. Turkey’s clearly German inventory of service weapons reflects the close economic ties between the two nations.
While not a fully comprehensive list, this will serve to showcase most of the weapons in Turkish military and Gendarmerie service.
